How Tyrone Smith turned one lawnmower into a community-wide service powerhouse
When life forces you to pivot, some people panic. Others—like Tyrone Smith—turn that moment into an opportunity. When I sat down with Tyrone for this Leauxcal feature, he told me that Call Tyrone Enterprises started during one of the toughest seasons of his life. After being laid off from his machine shop job, he suddenly had to figure out his next move. Thanks to the hard work and mindset instilled in him by his dad, Tyrone knew he couldn’t just sit still—he had to do something. That’s when he remembered the one piece of advice that stuck with him:
“Work is all about supply and demand. Do something people will always need.”
And in Louisiana, one thing is certain: grass always grows.
A Business Born From Necessity
With nothing more than a lawnmower, a weed eater, and a determination to make ends meet, Tyrone jumped into action. He posted on Facebook letting people know he was cutting grass, and the response was instant. Neighbors shared his post, friends booked him for their yards, and before long, his first wave of clients helped him build something bigger than he ever expected.
Then the requests started expanding.
People began messaging him asking, “Hey Tyrone, can you help me move this?”“Can you haul something for me?”“Can you fix this around my house?”
Tyrone’s answer was always the same: “I got you.”
Before he knew it, his small lawn-care hustle turned into a full-service community operation.
A Man of Many Talents
While building his business, Tyrone also started driving a school bus for the local school system. The job offered stability and—more importantly—flexibility, allowing him to continue pouring into his community while growing his company.
But Tyrone’s talents don’t stop at grass cutting and handyman work.
He also does singing telegrams for people wanting to surprise their loved ones. He’ll pick you up from the airport. He’ll move you across town—or across the country. If you need something done, chances are he’s already done it for someone else.
This “yes-man” mentality, paired with his genuine kindness, helped his reputation spread fast.

From a Mower and a Dream to a Full Fleet
What started with a lawnmower and a weed eater has now grown into a small fleet of equipment and vehicles:
• A car• A truck• A trailer• And his newest investment—a party bus now available for rentals
The growth has been steady, organic, and fueled entirely by community trust. People call Tyrone because they know he shows up, works hard, and always finds a way to help.

A Community Hero in His Own Right
What began as a man laid off and unsure of what to do next has turned into a thriving, multi-service operation known as Call Tyrone Enterprises. Tyrone may have started with necessity, but he built his business on heart—and his community has embraced him every step of the way.
If you ask around, you’ll hear the same thing over and over:“Just call Tyrone. He can handle it.”
And from what I’ve seen, they’re absolutely right.

Fat Boy Phillies Food Review
Tyrone and I met up at Fat Boy Phillies for this interview and also added in a food review of one of Tyrone's favorite places to eat. Chef KJ brought us out a few things off of the menu to try. The seafood potato with a piece of fried fish was delicious and perfectly seasoned. Their cheeseburger was big and juicy and also well-seasoned. Fat Boy Phillies has a food truck and also a spot in the SouthLand Mall located in Houma Louisiana. I highly suggest trying them out if you haven't!
