The Opelousas Children’s Christmas Parade is one of the city’s most cherished holiday traditions, bringing families and visitors together to celebrate the magic of the season. Each year, the parade lights up the historic downtown with festive music, sparkling floats, and joyful community spirit.

For 2025, the parade will take place on Thursday, December 11 at 6:00 p.m. The procession begins at the eastern gateway of the city at Landry and Academy Streets, near Le Vieux Village, and continues west through the downtown district. The parade concludes at Landry and Bullard Streets, offering plenty of viewing spots along the route for families to enjoy.

Spectators can expect a lively lineup that includes beautifully decorated lighted floats, marching bands, dance groups, local organizations, and popular costumed characters. As always, Santa Claus will make his grand appearance at the end of the parade, marking the official arrival of the holiday season in Opelousas.

Those interested in participating can submit entry forms through the Opelousas Tourism Office. Fees vary by type of entry, with larger units such as motor homes and 18-wheelers carrying a higher registration cost than small trailers, cars, or pickups. Walkers and bicycles may join at no charge, making the event accessible to all community members.

The Opelousas Christmas Parade is more than just a procession—it is a celebration of tradition, community pride, and holiday joy. Families are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot and enjoy an evening filled with lights, music, and Christmas cheer.
