In this episode of Louisiana Back Porch Talk, I sit down with one of Breaux Bridge's talented artists, Sarah Melancon- a creative whose work has literally transformed the look and feel of our hometown.

Sarah is known for her hand-painted murals and vibrant window art that light up the streets of Downtown Breaux Bridge. From holiday window scenes to community murals that welcome visitors into town, her art tells the story of Louisiana pride, small-town charm, and a deep love for her community.

You've probably seen her work without even realizing it. She and fellow Breaux Bridge artist Jessalyn Newton teamed up to paint the Breaux Bridge Birthday Wall Mural and the Welcome to Breaux Bridge mural. Together, they've created colorful backdrops that have become local landmarks and photo stops for residents and tourists alike. Sarah shared that she and Jessalyn make such a great team because they understand each other's styles and where one is weak the other is strong.

Beyond murals, Sarah's creativity finds its way into just about every corner of the community. She decorates windows for local businesses throughout the year especially during holidays when her festive designs fill the streets with color and cheer.
In our interview, Sarah gave us a peek inside her at-home studio, where she paints, sketches, and brings new ideas to life. She talked about her creative process and how she has to sometimes come back to a piece later to get it just right. One of her most popular projects right now is her hand-painted champagne bottles-a fun, trendy way for people to celebrate special occasions with something personal and artistic.
Sarah also creates custom commissions, including sentimental pieces like painted ultrasound portraits for expecting families or memorial keepsakes in honor of loved ones. Each piece tells a story, and Sarah pours her heart into every one.
Her love for art isn't just about painting- it's about connection. Whether she's working on a large mural or a small keepsake, Sarah's goal is to make people feel something through her work.
From her murals to her windows to her champagne bottles, Sarah Melacon is proving that creativity can truly build community one brushstroke at a time.
